Smoked Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin

Easy smoked teriyaki pork tenderloin recipe on cedar planks.  You can soak cedar planks this afternoon and enjoyed an amazing smoked grilled pork tenderloin.

This smoked teriyaki pork tenderloin is so amazing and can be on your table this week with just a little effort.  It’s seasoned with teriyaki sauce with a lite smoked flavor with the use of cedar planks.   We have been using cedar planks for years with our smoked salmon and they do add an amazing job of adding just right amount of smoke.

Cedar planks are readily available at your local grocery store or they can purchased online.  We usually keep a few on hand in case the urge strikes us to smoke pork or salmon.  Plank grilling could be used for chicken, pork chops, fish or even vegetables.  They not only add a delicious taste to your food but also protect delicate fish  from the harsh grill.  And prevent small pieces of vegetables from falling through the grill.  The most important thing to remember when plank grilling is to always soak your cedar planks. 
 

How how long to soak cedar planks:

This answer is usually based on how long it takes for the food to grill.  If it’s salmon that is cooked quickly then soaking your planks for an hour is advised.   But as in today we are smoking pork tenderloins which takes longer.  Then the planks need to be completely submerged in water for at least 4 hours.   So a rule of thumb for how long to soak cedar planks is directly based on how long it will be on the grill.   

 

Smoked Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1 to 2  pounds pork tenderloin pack (usually has two tenderloins packaged together)
  • ½ cup teriyaki  sauce

 

Equipment Needed:

  • Gallon Size Ziplock Baggie
  • 2 Cedar Planks
  • Grill
  • Spray water bottle 

 

How to prepare to smoke pork tenderloins on cedar planks:

Start your plank grilling by soaking the cedar planks. You could either place them in your kitchen sink filled with water or in a roasting pan filled with water   We use a 9 X 13  pan to keep the sink free and we place a weight to keep them submerged.   You could use a cup filled with water as a weight or sometimes two cups to insure the planks stay submerged.  Leave them in the water for at least 4 hours.

Place the tenderloins in a gallon size ziplock baggie or in a marinade container and pour the teriyaki sauce over them.  Close the baggie removing as much air as possible and massage the pork to coat with the sauce.  Flip over and place in a bowl and chill in the fridge for least 4 hours.  Remove from fridge and allow to come to room temperature, about an hour before smoking.

Heat your gill to medium high heat and place the well soaked planks on the grill.  Close the grill and let the planks heat for about 2-3 minutes.   You should see some light smoke coming from the planks and the bottoms will be lightly blackened.

Flip the planks over and remove the teriyaki seasoned pork tenderloins from the marinade.  Place one tenderloin on each plank and close the grill.

Allow the pork to smoke for 10-15 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 145 degrees F.    You might wish to keep a spray bottle of water nearby to spray any flare ups.

Remove the smoked pork tenderloins from the grill, cover and let rest for 10-15 minutes.   Place the cedar planks in water to completely extinguish them and then dispose of them.

Slice the teriyaki smoked pork into 1 inches slices and serve.  You could either serve over rice or couscous with mango salsa.   Or the smoked pork is also delish served with grilled asparagus and jacket potatoes.

YUM! I don't normally eat pork, but I would have to try this anyway. The mango salsa sounds good too, I make one with mango, strawberries, lemon juice, honey and parsley. Mango is so versatile, isn't it?
