Italian Sausage Wrapped in Dough

Make easy appetizers of Italian sausage wrapped in dough.   This Italian sausage roll recipe uses a shortcut for simple herbed bread in these sausage appetizers.

This Italian sausage wrapped in dough is an easy way to have a fun, flavorful finger food for all your parties or BBQ’s. We cut a few corners making our herbed bread for these little sausage in a blanket treats to make these even easier.

These Italian sausage rolls are made using store bought dough, jars of spicy mustard and marinara sauce.   And with a few simple tricks we made these sausage appetizer rock

 

Italian Sausage Rolls Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1- 13.9 ounce of refrigerated Pizza Dough (we used Pillsbury)
  • 3 Tablespoons of grated Parmesan Cheese
  • 3 Teaspoons of Italian Seasoning
  • 1 package Sweet Italian Sausages
  • Spicy Mustard, optional
  • Marinara Sauce, optional

 

Equipment:

  • Parchment Paper
  • Sheet Pan
  • Dough Mat
  • Rolling Pin 
  • Pizza Cutter
  • Pastry Brush
  • Small Bowl

 

How to make Italian Sausage wrapped in Herbed Dough

Preheat your oven to 400° F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.  Open the pizza dough tube and place the dough on a flour covered pastry mat.  Kneed into a round ball.

Sprinkle the Italian seasoning and Parmesan cheese onto the dough.

Kneed well until the cheese and herbs are thoroughly combined in the dough.

Roll the herbed bread dough out into a large circle.  Using a pizza cutter cut it into 15 strips that are about 1 inch x 4 inches.

Meanwhile grill the sausages until done and place on a paper towel lined plate.  And allow them to rest for 5-10 minutes.

Cut each Italian sausage into thirds and place each one of the pieces of sausages onto a bread strip.

 Wrap the dough around the sausage and tie into a knot or twist the ends together.   You may have to stretch the dough a little.  Or you could wrap the dough around the sausage and place the seam side down.

Place the Italian sausages wrapped in dough on a the parchment lined baking sheet.

Beat one egg with 1 tablespoon of water in a small bowl.  Using a pastry brush, coat all the dough wrapped sausage appetizers with the egg wash.   Place in your preheated oven and bake for about 10 minutes or until dough is brown.

Serve these Italian sausage rolls with a spicy mustard and/or marinara sauce.

Wouldn't it make more sense to roll the pizza dough into a rectangle, since you're cutting rectangular strips of dough?
