 Cloverleaf Dinner Rolls

We think this cloverleaf dinner roll recipe was very popular in the early sixty’s when ladies were always looking for different ways to serve dinner. Remember the thousands of ways to serve Jello?  We think it was in the era that the housewives created new and different ways of using one tried and true bread recipe but baking it and serving it in ingenious ways.

The easy way the rolls are made to come apart after baking was and is still very appealing.   They are easily made using a muffin tin, and the rolls will separate into three or four pieces.   The trick is to make small pieces of dough and place 3-4 pieces into each cup of the tin.  I remember my girls used to help me by rolling up the balls of dough and placing it in the cupcake pans.  They loved making the little balls of dough and then pulling apart the cooked rolls and smearing them with butter.

I love the idea of baking these from scratch. We normally go the lazy way and buy them, but I think I'll give these a try this year. Nothing beats the smell of fresh baked bread (not even turkey, in my opinion:)
