I have always loved meat pies.  I remember being excited when there was leftover roast beef because I knew we would have beef pot pie the next day.   And it doesn’t have to be beef, chicken pot pie or even a veggie pot pie works for me.  I am not sure why the meat pie tastes better than the lovely roast beef.   But maybe, it is the crust topping or maybe, the flavors have more time to marry.   Either way, I would rather have the meat pie than the roast.    And we have knocked it out of the park today with this beef Guinness pie and it’s perfect for St Patrick’s Day.

But of course, this beef Guinness pie is a very rich meat pie.   And the seasonings are amazing and the lager adds a roasted dark wheat taste.

What is White Soda Bread:

Soda bread is a quick bread that utilizes baking soda as a leavening agent instead of yeast.    And white soda bread contains white flour and most of the time buttermilk.   The acidy of the buttermilk activates the baking soda immediately so kneading is not recommended.    So a white soda bread makes it perfect as a topping for a steak and Guinness pie.

Guinness lager is not something we drink often but it seems to add to our St Patrick’s Day fun especially if we enjoy a couple of pints alongside this meal.    And we even have these awesome Guinness Irish Pint Glasses to continue the theme of the day.  Also, you could make Beef and Guinness Pie ahead of time.   And the White Soda Bread Topping can be added just prior to baking.  But you really don’t have to wait for St Paddy’s Day to enjoy this beef Guinness pie, it would be appreciated anytime.
