Slice the bananas into ¾-inch thick pieces. —For the best results, choose ripe but firm bananas — they should be yellow with minimal brown spots for easier slicing and better texture. Use a sharp knife and cut straight across for even, uniform slices. This thickness is ideal because it holds up well on the skewers without breaking and creates nicely balanced bites with the strawberries and blueberries. Optional: To prevent the banana slices from browning, you can lightly brush them with lemon or lime juice right after slicing.
Start by threading 6 blueberries onto one end of your skewer. –This forms the blue “union” or star field of the American flag. Push the blueberries gently but firmly so they sit close together at the base of the skewer. Using 6 blueberries gives you a nice compact rectangle that looks balanced and flag-like once the stripes are added.
After threading your 6 blueberries, begin building the flag’s stripes on the same skewer.Alternate layers of banana slices and strawberry halves using this simple pattern---Add one banana slice (this creates the white stripe) and add one strawberry half (this creates the red stripe)

Each skewer should have approximately 3 banana slices and 4 strawberry halves.
Lay all the finished fruit skewers out on a large serving platter or cutting board so they resemble a beautiful American flag. Place the 4 skewers with the blueberry “union” in the upper left corner, then arrange the plain striped skewers in neat rows beside and below them to complete the flag pattern.
