Frosted Banana Bars

Enjoy these delish frosted banana bars using our banana sheet cake recipe.  This easy banana bars with cream cheese frosting recipe makes 36 banana squares that we know your family will love.

We have had this recipe for years and it’s one of our favorite ways to produce a ton of snacks easily.  This banana bars with cream cheese frosting recipe makes approximately 36 banana squares.   It’s kinda of like a banana sheet cake recipe because we use a 13 X 18 size baking pan which is considered a whole sheet pan.

This is one of the easiest made from scratch snack recipes in our recipe box.  It’s another great way to use us all those over ripe bananas.  And it makes enough to freeze for later. 

 

Banana Sheet Cake Recipe:

  • 1/2 cup of butter, softened
  • 2 cups of white sugar
  • 3 eggs, room temperature
  • 4 large ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2  teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • pinch of salt (less than 1/8 teaspoon)

Start your frosted banana bars by preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 13 X 18 X 1 inch baking sheet.  In a large mixing bowl, (we use our aluminum mixing bowl and kitchen-aide mixeraluminum mixing bowl and kitchen-aide mixer) cream the softened butter and sugar.  Add the eggs and beat until mixed.  Add mashed bananas and vanilla and mix.

In a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves and salt and mix well.

Add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture and beat well.

Pour the mixture into your prepared baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until it springs back slightly to the touch.

Remove from oven. and allow to cool completely before starting the frosting.  

 

How to Make Cream Cheese Frosting:

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup of butter, softened
  • 1-8oz package of cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Measure out the powdered sugar into a large mixing bowl.  Add the butter and cream cheese and mix well then add the vanilla and mix.

Your cream cheese frosting should be creamy and well combined.

 

 

Using a cake frosting spreader, spread over the entire banana sheet cake using the entire bowl of frosting.

Place in fridge and chill for at least an hour.  Remove from fridge and slice into 36 frosted banana bars.

These frosted banana bars will feed a crowd or if you are like our household you could go through them in a few days.  Seriously they are super delish but they do need to be kept in the fridge or freezer.
