How to Make the easiest of Watermelon Desserts

May 20, 2013 by Evelyn 63 Comments

We love watermelon desserts, whether it’s filling a parfait glass with melon balls or making this Watermelon Star cake.

This Watermelon Star Cake is a fun healthy way to celebrate Memorial Day or the 4th of July.  OK, it’s not really a “cake” but it looks like one without lighting an oven.    Summertime desserts are all about fresh cool ingredients and bright colors.
This sweet cake is made with all fresh fruit and whipped cream topping.

How to Make Watermelon Star Cake:

Scroll to the bottom for the Printable Recipe
.
Watermelon desserts
We start by cutting a 3-4 inch circular slice of watermelon and placing it on a cake plate.  Using a sharp knife, carefully cut around the rind and removing it.

Use whipped topping to cover the top of the watermelon slice to resemble frosting on a cake.

.
Watermelon desserts, Watermelon Cake
Top the watermelon with blueberries and halved strawberries to resemble a five-point star.  Save additional blueberries and strawberries to serve on the side.

Cut this Watermelon star cake in the same manner as a regular cake and served in slices.   It’s a great alternative to sweet sugary cakes for potluck dinners or socials.

.
Serve each slice of this watermelon cake with additional whipped topping and blueberries or strawberries.

.
 watermelon desserts
We have made watermelon cakes in the shape of a star but it’s added work and it really is not as impressive as some of our other watermelon desserts.     And this Watermelon Star Cake is made with all fresh ingredients to highlight the summer seasonal fruit.     Use store-bought whipped topping or make it yourself easily at home using a whipped cream maker from Amazon.
