If you are like me and are a little artistically challenged then this is the perfect Christmas cupcake project for you.   Or if like I mentioned prior and are running out of time, and really wish to give your loved ones something special, then this it.  These snowman face cupcakes will be a hit with your friends and family and make great gifts.

What you will need to make these Snowman Cupcakes:

Decorating tubes and cake mix with eggs and butter

Ingredients for 24 cupcakes

  • Cake mix (plus all the ingredients to make the cupcakes)
  • White Cupcake Papers
  • 1 stick butter,  1/2 cup, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • Sparkling Sugar
  • Black decorating icing tube
  • Orange decorating frosting tube

Equipment Needed:

  • Wilton icing tip #5
  • 2- 12 cup cupcake pans
  • Mixer

Making the Cupcakes

Mixing the Cake Mix

Place the white cupcake papers in each of the cups of both cupcake pans.  Then prepare the cake mix for the cupcakes according to package’s directions.

Pour the batter evenly into all 24 cupcake paper lined cups and bake according to package directions.  Remove from oven and pan, place on a wire rack and allow to cool completely.

How to Paint the Snowman Cupcake Faces:

powdered sugar frosting

While the cupcakes are cooling, use an electric mixer to beat together the softened butter, powdered sugar and the milk until well-combined.

Use an offset spatula to frost each cupcake with the buttercream frosting using all of it.

Sparkling sugar cupcakes

Hold each cupcake over a bowl or plate to catch the excess and sprinkle on some of the Sparkling Sugar.   Or if you are using plain white sugar, you could simply dip each cupcake upside down in a bowl containing the sugar.

Making the Snowman Face Cupcakes with black and orange icing

Attach a Wilton icing tip #5 to each frosting tube.    Decorate each cupcake with a “snowman face” by making dots with the black icing for eyes and the mouth.   And then use the orange icing for the carrot nose.

Finish the remaining Snowmen Cupcakes.  And allow to set up and then serve!
