How to make Mummy Candles:

Glue one end of the gauze to the bottom of your mason jar. Wrap the gauze around the jar until it’s fully covered. Glue the end to secure.

Using your glue gun glue two googly eyes to the top of the gauze where you want your eyes.

Turn on your tea light and place inside the jar.

Just a note, make sure you use plenty of gauze so the little mummy candles are well covered.

Now place them in any of your Halloween decorations. Or they could be outside on the porch as Halloween luminaries. It is best if you used tea lights but if you do use a candle, make sure the flame is lower than the top of the mummy candle holder. It could catch on fire if not.
Safety First: Always use battery-operated tea lights, to avoid fire hazards, especially with flammable materials like yarn or tissue paper.
Mummy Candle Variations:
- White Crepe Streamers: Crepe streamers are lightweight, inexpensive, and easy to wrap, giving a similar “bandaged” look with a slightly different texture. They’re also widely available in party supply stores.
- White Yarn: Yarn provides a thicker, more textured “bandage” effect compared to gauze, adding a cozy, rustic vibe. It’s a great way to use up leftover yarn and creates a durable decoration.
- White Tissue Paper: Tissue paper is ultra-cheap and creates a delicate, translucent effect that allows the tea light’s glow to shine through beautifully. The Mod Podge seals the paper, making the craft more durable while maintaining the spooky mummy aesthetic.
- Add colored tissue paper or yarn accents for a unique look, or use smaller jars for mini mummy candles to create a collection.
These variations maintain the simplicity and charm of the original Mummy Candle Holders while offering different textures and materials for a fresh take on the Halloween craft.
These work well as luminaries, centerpieces, or porch decorations, just like the original, but ensure they’re protected from moisture if used outdoors.
