Melt Away Cookies for Valentines Day

 Valentine’s Day is one of my most favorite holidays, a time to stop and think about Love and a time to let our loved ones know that they hold a very special place in our hearts.   It’s a time for us to pull out our cookie recipes from scratch so a little bit of love is baked into each one.

  And these special little frosted Valentine’s Sugar Cookies are a great way to show your love.   And this easy recipe for sugar cookies is our go-to recipe.  Top it with a great pink frosting and sprinkles and you have the perfect little sugar cookie for valentine’s day.  These cookies made with powdered sugar are a delicious meltaway cookie.

Valentine melt away cookies Ingredients:


Sugar Cookie Dough Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened

Frosting Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • pink food coloring
  • Valentine Sprinkles

Equipment Needed:

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Dough Board
  • Baking Sheet


How to make these Valentine Sugar Cookies from Scratch:

Start your Valentine meltaway cookies by mixing all the cookie sugar dough ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix well.  The dough should be a little sticky.   Turn it out on a floured dough board and work gently with hands.

Form the dough into a large ball and wrap in plastic wrap.  Place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.

Remove dough from the fridge and form into 1 inch balls and place on a greased cookie sheet.

Gently flatten with a fork and bake for 15 minutes in a 350-degree oven or until bottom edges are lightly brown. Remove the sugar cookies from the oven and place on a cooling rack.  Let completely cool while making the frosting.

Mix all the frosting ingredients in a medium mixing bowl.  If the frosting is too thin add more powdered sugar if it’s too thick add more milk.   Add pink food coloring until the coloring is too your liking.

After the cookies are cool and the icing is made, pour the valentine sprinkles in a small bowl or pinch cup.

  • Add all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Mix until combined. The dough will be a little sticky.
  • Transfer dough onto a lightly floured surface or dough board and work gently with hands.
  • Form into a large ball and wrap in plastic wrap. Place in refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Frosting Directions:

  • Combine all ingredients in a medium mixing bowl.  Add the amount of pink food coloring to your desired tint
  • If frosting is too thin, add more powdered sugar. If it is too thick, add more milk.
  • Frost each cookie and sprinkle with Valentine Sprinkles
