Pulled Pork with Coke Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 pound Pork Boston Butt Roast
  • 1 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • ½ teaspoon granulated garlic
  • ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1 or 2 12-ounce cans of coca cola soda
  • BBQ Sauce
  • 6-8 Buns

Equipment Needed:

🥣 Recipe Tips

  • Select the Right Liquid Smoke Flavor: Experiment with mesquite for a bold, smoky profile that mimics outdoor grilling, or try hickory for a subtler nuttiness. Start with just 1 teaspoon to avoid overpowering the sweet Coke notes, and adjust based on your smokiness preference.
  • Monitor the amount of Coke for Tenderness: Use enough Coca Cola to fully submerge the roast for even cooking and maximum flavor infusion, but if using a larger crockpot, add a second can to prevent drying out. The acidity in the soda helps break down the meat, resulting in ultra-tender pulled pork.
  • Enhance Moisture and Spice Balance: After shredding, incorporate reserved cooking juices gradually to keep the pork moist without making it soggy. For extra heat, double the cayenne pepper, or balance the sweetness with a tangy BBQ sauce like vinegar-based to complement the Coke’s caramel undertones.

How to make Coca Cola Pulled Pork in a crockpot:

seasoned pork roast

Spray the inside of the crock of the slow cooker with a non sticking cooking spray.  Place your pork roast inside and season it with the garlic, onion, black pepper and cayenne pepper.

Add 1 teaspoon of your choice of flavors of liquid smoke.  (we used the mesquite flavor but it does come with hickory or pecan flavorings)

Pouring coke on roast

Pour the cocoa cola over the roast to completely cover it.  We used a smaller crockpot (3 quarts) and only used one 12 ounce can of coke.  Cover and cook on low for 4-5 hours until completely tender.

When done, remove pork from the crockpot (save juices) and shred with meat claws or with two forks.  Add some of the saved juices if your pulled pork with coke is too dry.   Otherwise it’s ready to serve.
