What you will need to make tie dye Easter eggs:

Supplies:
- White hard-boiled eggs
- Food Coloring
- Coffee Filters
- Twist Ties
Equipment needed:
- Water Spray bottle
- Plastic gloves
Tutorial Tips
Leave intentional white spaces when adding food coloring–
- Don’t cover the entire coffee filter with color drops. Leaving some gaps allows the colors to blend beautifully while keeping bright white areas for contrast. This is what gives the eggs that classic, vibrant tie-dye look instead of a muddy result.
Be gentle when spraying with water
- Use a light mist from the spray bottle rather than soaking the eggs. Too much water can cause the colors to run together excessively or make the filter too soggy. A gentle spray lets the colors spread and mix naturally for prettier patterns.
Allow plenty of drying time
- Let the wrapped eggs dry completely overnight (at least 8–12 hours) on a parchment-lined sheet pan. Rushing this step can cause the colors to smear when you unwrap them. Patience here ensures the dye sets well and you get crisp, beautiful results.
These tips will help you create stunning, one-of-a-kind tie-dye Easter eggs with minimal mess!
How to make Coffee Filter Dyed Eggs:

- Start with dry, completely cooled hard-boiled eggs. This helps the colors adhere better and prevents any slipping during the process.
- Place one egg in the center of a paper coffee filter.

- Fold the coffee filter up and around the egg, gathering it gently at the top.
- Secure it tightly with a twist tie to hold everything in place.
- Repeat the process with the remaining eggs, wrapping each one individually in a coffee filter and securing with a twist tie.

- Place drops of food coloring directly onto the wrapped eggs. You can use as many colors as you like — the more colors, the more vibrant your tie-dye effect will be!
- Be sure to leave some white spaces between the drops. This allows the colors to blend beautifully and creates that classic tie-dye look.
- Continue adding drops until the coffee filters are nicely covered with colorful spots.

- Gently spray each food coloring dot with a light mist of water from a spray bottle. Watch as the colors begin to spread and blend together, creating those beautiful, groovy tie-dye patterns.
- Once you’ve sprayed all the eggs, carefully squeeze out the excess water using a paper towel. Be gentle so you don’t smear the design.
- Place the coffee filter dyed wrapped eggs on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and allow them to dry overnight (or for at least 8 hours) for the best, most vibrant results.

- Carefully unwrap the eggs from the dried coffee filters. As you peel them away, you’ll reveal the beautiful, one-of-a-kind tie-dye patterns — no two eggs will look exactly alike!
- These vibrant tie-dye Easter eggs are ready to display in a basket, use as table decorations, or hide for an Easter egg hunt.

These tie-dye Easter eggs bring a fun, groovy vibe to your Easter celebrations with almost no mess and endless creative possibilities. Whether you’re making memories with your kids or just enjoying a nostalgic craft, this easy coffee filter technique delivers stunning results every time.
I hope you and your family have as much fun making them as I did! Happy Easter — may your baskets be full of color and joy.
