Religious Easter Wreath with lilies and a jute cross

Easter is almost here, and like many of you, we love celebrating the true meaning of the season. Finding a beautiful Christian Easter wreath in stores can be surprisingly difficult, so we decided to make our own! We chose soft spring flowers in shades of lavender and white that beautifully symbolize new life and fresh beginnings—all centered around a rustic wooden cross.

In just one afternoon, you can create this elegant Christian wreath using simple supplies from the dollar store and Hobby Lobby. Soft lavender and white lilies add a fresh spring touch while keeping the focus on the miracle of the cross.

We wrapped a simple wooden cross in jute to create a beautiful reminder of the miracle of Easter. To keep the wreath elegant and clean, we used a 14-inch steel ring from Hobby Lobby. I’m so glad we did — the combination of the rustic cross, soft spring flowers, and simple design turned out just lovely. Perfect for your front door or as a heartfelt gift.

What you will need to make this Christian Easter Wreath with Cross:

Supplies:

  • 14” Metal Ring (Hobby Lobby)
  • Jute String (Hobby Lobby or Dollar Tree)
  • 9 1/2” Wooden Cross (Dollar Tree)
  • 2 Lavender Floral Picks (Dollar Tree)
  • 3 White Lily Floral Picks (Dollar Tree)

Equipment:

Project Variations

Variation 1: Soft Pastel Spring Glory (Gentle & Feminine)

This version keeps the elegant simplicity you love but shifts to a softer, brighter spring palette.

Key Changes:

  • Use a 14″ metal ring or switch to a grapevine wreath base for extra texture.
  • Wrap the wooden cross in cream or natural jute (same as original) or pale burlap ribbon.
  • Replace lavender with 2–3 soft pink or peach floral picks.
  • Use white lilies plus a few pale yellow or blush roses for the three bunches.
  • Add a small touch of baby’s breath or tiny white filler flowers for airiness.

Overall Look: Delicate, joyful, and perfect for a light-colored door or entryway. It still centers the cross beautifully while feeling extra fresh and hopeful for Easter morning.

Variation 2: Rustic Farmhouse “Old Rugged Cross” (Warm & Earthy)

A more textured, country-style take that emphasizes the sacrifice and strength of the cross.

Key Changes:

  • Wrap the cross heavily in thicker jute or add a layer of brown raffia/twine for a more rugged, weathered look.
  • Keep the 14″ metal ring or use a larger 16–18″ ring for a bolder presence.
  • Use 2 sage green or muted eucalyptus picks instead of lavender.
  • Swap the white lilies for cream/white flowers with a few burgundy or deep rose accents (symbolizing the blood of Christ).
  • Add a simple burlap bow or small wooden “He is Risen” tag at the bottom.

Overall Look: Warm, timeless, and farmhouse-inspired — beautiful for everyday faith decor that lasts well beyond Easter.

Variation 3: Elegant White & Gold “He Is Risen” (Classic & Sophisticated)

A clean, church-worthy version with a touch of celebration.

Key Changes:

  • Wrap the cross in white ribbon or whitewashed jute for a bright, pure look.
  • Keep the 14″ metal ring but spray-paint it gold or use a gold metal ring if available.
  • Use 2 white or ivory floral picks (or lamb’s ear for soft greenery) at top and bottom.
  • Make the three lily bunches all in white/cream lilies, and tuck in a few gold-accented flowers or small gold butterflies.
  • Add a shimmering gold “He Is Risen” pick or small cross charm in the center.

Overall Look: Bright, elegant, and stunning against a dark door or neutral wall. It feels both reverent and festive.

All three variations use mostly the same basic supplies and follow the original wrapping and attaching steps — just swap the flower colors and a few small accents. They can be made in an afternoon and still clearly share the true meaning of Easter.

How to make a Easter Wreath with Cross:

hot glue gun, jute, wooden cross and scissors

Step 1: Make the Cross

  • Start your wreath by creating the jute-wrapped cross. You’ll need a wooden cross, jute twine, a hot glue gun, and scissors.

Step 2: Wrap the Cross with Jute

  • First, remove the jute hanger that comes attached to the cross.
  • Starting at the top front of the cross, apply a small strip of hot glue. Place the end of the jute twine on the glue and begin wrapping it tightly around the cross.
  • Every couple of wraps, add another line of hot glue to the wood to secure the twine. Continue wrapping until the entire cross is evenly and completely covered.

Step 3: Cover the Top Edges

  • Cut short pieces of jute twine and hot glue them over the bare wood along the top edges of the cross. This will neatly cover any spots that were left showing after wrapping.

Step 4: Attach the Cross to the Wreath

  • Use the lavender picks to help you decide the best placement for the cross on the 14″ metal ring. Once you’re happy with the position, hot glue the cross securely to the ring.

  • You will need wire cutters, zip ties, and green floral tape.

Step 6: Add the Lavender Picks

  • Decide where you want to place the two lavender picks — one at the top and one at the bottom of the wreath.
  • Once you’re happy with the placement, zip-tie them securely to the metal ring.

Step 7: Trim and Finish the Zip Ties

  • Use wire cutters to snip off the excess zip tie ends and any long lavender stems.
  • Then cover the black zip ties with green floral tape to hide them and give a cleaner look.

Step 8: Prepare the Lily Bunches

  • Snip the lily floral picks apart into 9 individual flowers.
  • Take 3 lilies and bunch them together, staggering them slightly one above the other. Wrap the stems tightly with green floral tape to hold them in place.
  • Repeat with the remaining lilies so you have 3 bunches of 3 staggered lilies each.
